Understanding the chakras, gently
· 5 minute read
People often ask me about the chakras, usually a little apologetically, as if it's a strange question. It isn't. They're one of the oldest maps we have for thinking about how body, feeling and attention connect.
In yogic tradition, the chakras are described as seven centres running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Each has long been associated with a colour and a theme. I find them a useful language for noticing where we hold things — not a diagnosis, and not a replacement for medical care.

A small way to begin
Next time you sit quietly, move your attention slowly up through those seven places. Don't try to change anything. Just notice which feel easy to rest in and which feel busy.
Noticing is enough. Everything else can wait.
